COP30: INTERVIEW – DRC’s new payment initiative rewards sustainable forestry for more than the lowest cost of carbon

A new Central African forestry initiative is circumventing the carbon market in order to reward the people and communities who plant trees, rather than those that cause deforestation in the first place, according to a government official from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
