Lead ETS lawmaker urges earlier EU carbon removal purchases

Peter Liese, the European Parliament’s lead lawmaker on EU ETS reform, has called on Brussels to begin purchasing permanent carbon removals as early as 2028, arguing that an accelerated programme would provide demand certainty for developers and give hard-to-abate industries a way to address residual emissions.
