EU lawmakers back sector-specific ETS free allowances for top performers

Members of the European Parliament's environment committee voted on Monday to increase the number of free EU carbon permits available to certain industries before 2030, going further than a European Commission proposal aimed at protecting manufacturers from carbon leakage.
