EU hands out €100 mln in ETS allowances to back airlines’ SAF use

The European Commission has awarded around €100 million worth of free carbon allowances to 53 airlines to help cover the cost of using sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) in 2024, in the first allocation under a new support scheme embedded in the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS).
