Fossil fuel emissions could overtake ecosystems as driver of atmospheric CO2 seasonality, researchers predict

Researchers have challenged one of the foundational assumptions underpinning atmospheric carbon monitoring, warning that under strong climate mitigation pathways the seasonal cycle of atmospheric CO2 across the Northern Hemisphere could increasingly reflect declining fossil fuel emissions rather than changes in terrestrial ecosystems.
