EU ministers bring industry concerns into ETS reform, recast it as competitiveness issue

EU industry ministers used Thursday’s Competitiveness Council to call for stronger protection for energy-intensive industries, with Austria urging the EU to extend free allowances for sectors covered by the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) beyond 2038 to safeguard European manufacturing.
